Elsa Taylor lives and paints from her home in the Cotswolds.  Her inspiration derives from the surrounding countryside, from her travels to the Umbrian hills and from the dramatic beauty of the far north of Scotland and the  coast of Cornwall – it is these very different landscapes that form the bedrock of her work.

About me

My paintings are as much about feeling as seeing the subject whether it be the bridlepaths and woods of my walks or flowers and pots in the studio. Memory too plays its part. Drawings and scribbles made of the wild places in Scotland or hilltop villages in Italy are often the spark that leads to the beginning of the painting.

I surround myself with favourite books open to excite me to colour and line and brush stroke including Giorgio Morandi, Nicholas de Stael, Joan Eardley , Craigie Aitchison . A valuable resource to the solitary painter.

And Robin Child who opened my eyes to the world of art, his teaching is a continuing irreplaceable inspiration.
